Business Entities with empty setters/getters

Is there any value in having empty setters and getters on a business entity? Might as well just have public variables.

I would like to create a business entity that I can add logic to the setters for things like marking the object dirty and firing PropertyChanged events to let binding know that a value has changed. For project where I own the client and the server, a business entity should know how to handle itself(short of persisting data), But I have not figured how to put logic in the setter and getters, without modifing the generated code.

Is this just me or have others run into the same problem, and if so, how did you deal with it?
