How to Debug the Repository Factory

To debug the Repository Factory, you need two instances of Visual Studio, one with the Repository Factory solution to be debugged, and the other one with a test solution that uses the Repository Factory. The following steps will guide you on how to debug the Repository Factory.
  • Open an instance of Visual Studio and open the Repository Factory solution file.
  • Right-click on the DataAccess Guidance Package project and open the Properties window.
  • On the Properties window, click on the Debug tab, select Start external program and enter the location of Visual Studio, e.g. devenv.exe. Optionally, you can also specify on the Command line arguments, the testing solution file to be automatically loaded.
  • Rebuild the Repository Factory Solution.
  • Register the Repository Factory Package, by right-clicking on the DataAccess Guidance Package project, and then on Register Guidance Package. This registration takes a while, so be patient.
  • Press F5 to start debugging
  • A new Visual Studio instance will open.
  • Open or create a testing solution that uses the Repository Factory, and just start debugging! By adding break points to the Repository Factory solution, and running the Repository Factory package on the testing solution, you will able to break in the debugger.
Happy debugging!!
